About Mitch

Humble Beginnings of a
Pitcher Turned Salsa Maker

Mitch was born on November 17, 1964 in Santa Ana,
California but moved soon after to West Linn, Oregon where he grew up. Mitch’s family struggled financially and often had a hard time keeping enough food on the table to satisfy the rapidly growing future hurler. By the time Mitch entered high school, the tall strapping teenager with a big arm had grown an even bigger appetite. That’s when Mitch discovered the magic of High School cooking classes. Not only did he learn how to cook, but he got to eat whatever he made. It was a great way to ensure an extra meal each day and helped him keep up his pitching strength. This created the foundation for his lifelong love of cooking.

Mitch was drafted out of high school and in a few years ended up pitching for the Texas Rangers. In Texas Mitch had found his hearts home and a passion for Texas-Style cooking. Mitch lived in Texas for over 20 years, during his baseball career and afterwards on his 600-acre ranch called the Three and Two Ranch. That’s were he honed his cooking skills further and created the great Texas-style taste you’ll find in Wild Thing Salsa.

In the future Mitch plans on releasing a number of other food recipes under the company name of Wild Thing 99 Foods. Mitch has been a completely hands-on owner and will remain personally involved in every step of the company’s growth. Each product will be made using Mitch’s personal recipes created in his kitchen. Only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients will ever touch a Wild Thing 99 Foods product.

Baseball Career “The Original Wild Thing”

After being drafted in the 7th round by the San Diego Padres out of high school in 1982, Mitch played three years in the Padres Minor League system before being traded to the Texas Rangers in 1985.

After advancing to the Major Leagues in 1986, Mitch played three years with the Rangers, before being traded in 1989 to the Chicago Cubs, the same year he would find himself playing in the National League All Star game.

In 1991, Mitch was traded to The Philadelphia Phillies, where he would play until 1993, helping his team advance to the 1993 World Series with his 43 saves that year and his 2 wins and 2 saves in the six game NLCS series against the Atlanta Braves.

In 1994, Mitch was traded to the Houston Astros, and retired with the Kansas City Royals in 1997.

Mitch has an impressive record of 192 career saves.

Known for his unorthodox release of the ball, Mitch is popularly remembered as the ‘Wild Thing’, a nick name he acquired while playing with the Cubs, and has even described himself as pitching as though his ‘hair was on fire’.

In the 1993, after hitting a game winning double at 4:40 in the morning, the latest ending game in Major League Baseball history, Mitch’s bat was placed in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
